And then, there are the rumours surrounding Dean Ambrose’s WWE future. Reports surfaced after the Royal Rumble that Ambrose had rejected a big-money offer from WWE to sign a new deal.
The reason stated in the reports were that Ambrose was not satisfied from a creative standpoint. Obviously, there were the rumblings that Ambrose could leave WWE and sign for All Elite Wrestling but nothing is certain right now. He could still do a 180 a re-sign with WWE if they make him an offer he can’t refuse. We know one thing, Dean Ambrose will be a bigger loss to WWE than TJP, Itami and Dillinger combined.
With the recent departures from WWE, we thought it would be interesting to speculate which Superstars could be the next ones to ask for their release from the main roster.

#5 and 6 - Gallows and Anderson
Gallows and Anderson signed with WWE to much fanfare from the hardcore fans at the same time as AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura. However, unlike Styles and Nakamura, Gallows and Anderson never got a chance to show what they were capable of.
Almost since the moment they debuted, they were a victim of 50-50 booking, meaning that WWE fans who had no idea of their reputation in Japan had no reason to get excited or to get behind them. That terrible “old day” segment didn’t help either.
Gallows and Anderson’s contracts are reportedly up later this year and with the duo still not doing much on SmackDown, they could be looking at AEW wondering if there’s a spot for them on that roster and thinking about asking for an early release from their WWE contracts.
#4 Zack Ryder
I can’t really remember the last meaningful storyline Zack Ryder was given. His current losing streak storyline in a tag-team with Curt Hawkins may be the best thing he’s had going for him as far as regularly appearing on RAW is concerned.
However, we still don’t know how far this story will go and if WWE has any plans for it. Ryder may be one of the WWE Superstars keeping a close eye on developments at All Elite Wrestling and thinking about asking for a release.

#3 Shelton Benjamin
Shelton Benjamin’s return to WWE started off with his tag-team with Chad Gable where Benjamin replaced Jason Jordan who was drafted to RAW after being revealed as Kurt Angle’s long lost son.
Since then, Benjamin hasn’t really had much time on television and has only made rare appearances. Benjamin could be nearing the end of his career and could be looking to leave for a promotion where he can have one last proper run.
#2 Killian Dain
WWE totally wasted SAnitY after bringing them up to SmackDown from NXT. They’ve done nothing and that’s a shame. They were one of the most interesting factions we’ve seen in WWE in recent years and showed a ton of potential, being spearheaded by veteran Eric Young.
One person who has openly spoken about his frustrations on SmackDown is Killian Dain. Dain proved he was one of the best big men in the entire WWE while in NXT but has done nothing on the main roster. It won’t really be surprising if he asks for his release but WWE would be better off to give Dain a chance to show what he can do. He has tons of potential.

#1 Rusev
Rusev has to be frustrated. After getting nothing in the terms of storylines, he got “Rusev Day” over with the WWE Universe only for WWE to do nothing with it.
Rusev then won the WWE US Championship but his reign didn’t go anywhere. It won’t be surprising to see someone as talented as Rusev leave WWE and come back in a few years as an established star.
