Of course, WWE is already doing a great job of developing storylines for Crown Jewel, but a lot of them still need a little fine tuning to set them over the top. With that being said and a lot already set to happen at next month’s pay per view, here are six controversial things WWE must do before the event takes place.
As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and also feel free to tell us what you think WWE needs to do.
#6 Put Finn Balor in a love triangle storyline
It’s a shame that WWE continues to do nothing with one of their best superstars and while one would hope he would eventually get another shot at The Universal title, it looks like the company isn’t going to budge on that for a while. What they might budge on, however, is a love triangle storyline, which would do a lot to raise Balor’s stock with fans.
Think about it! If Sasha Banks came back from her undisclosed injury and started to make Bayley jealous of her relationship with Balor, it would be interesting television. It would also be a cool way to finally do something with both Bayley and Sasha Banks, who have mainly been relegated to forgettable tag team matches and therapy sessions.
In the end, a relationship storyline is something that will help the three superstars get more television time and maybe even heighten Balor’s stock enough to get a match at Crown Jewel. Of course, it’s not a sure bet and it would be disjointing to do the storyline and then only have Balor fly to Saudi Arabia, but it would at least be something!
#5 Have AOP Win The Tag Team titles from Ziggler and McIntyre
While this might seem like it comes out of nowhere, it also makes a lot of sense once you think about it. The WWE universe is already anxiously awaiting AOP to finally ascend to the tag team title picture and what better way to do that then put them in a feud Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre.
Not only does this allow AOP to finally take their rightful spots in the tag team division and even get a chance to defend it at Crown Jewel, but it also capitalizes on the souring relationship between Ziggler and McIntyre. In fact, if Ziggler were somehow the weak link that cost the team the titles, it could be enough to break the team up and put McIntyre as a singles competitor.
#4 Put The Miz In The WWE Title match
WWE is already using The Miz to make the title match between Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles more interesting, which seems to point to them officially putting him in the match at some point. Not only would doing this help eliminate the foregone conclusion that The Miz will cost Bryan the match in some way, but also makes Crown Jewel more of a spectacle.
In the end, if The WWE isn’t going to put The Miz in the match with all the momentum he has right now than they are seriously doing him a disservice. Furthermore, they would be doing the fans a disservice by not putting Miz in the match, which will most certainly result in The Miz doing a run in and costing Bryan his dream.
WWE needs to avoid predictable booking here and just put The Miz in the match alongside Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles. A Triple Threat match is also a way to have AJ Styles finally lose the title without taking the pin and could be a great way to have The Miz come out of the match as the surprise winner.
#3 Put a stipulation on DX Versus The Brothers of Destruction.
It’s no secret that Triple H versus Undertaker was an underwhelming affair, especially since none of the superstars seemed to be able to go as they used to, which is why a stipulation is going to be needed to liven things up. Of course, there are a lot of stipulations WWE could go with for this one, but none of them seem as appetizing as a retirement match.
In all honesty, what would give the match more gravity then The Undertaker being forced to retire if he loses the match at Survivor Series? Not only will doing so help distract from the fact that these four superstars can’t go in the ring anymore, but it also makes the match must-see for fans that want to see if The Undertaker will be forced to retire or not.
#2 Bring John Cena back to television
Let’s be honest here.
Why is The WWE Universe supposed to care about this WWE world cup tournament when it just seems like a gimmick to fill up time? Not only is that evident by how quickly the tournament was thrown together and who was thrown into it, but also by the fact that WWE hasn’t announced a prize yet.
Again, why does WWE need to care about this? What’s the big deal about getting behind the people that are going to take part in this match? With that being said and a lot of big stars already set to compete in the match, these stars need to come in front of the audience and tell them why this series of matches are important.
Furthermore, John Cena, who hasn’t been seen on Raw or Smackdown Live in months, needs to get up in front of the audience and tell them why this is so important. If nothing else, maybe Cena getting fans energized about the match will be enough to give it some meaning and help in making it a big deal.
#1 Tease Dean Ambrose costing Roman Reigns the title
Whether WWE actually wants The Universal title to change hands or not, it is absolutely imperative that they at least hint at Dean Ambrose being the one to cost Reigns his Universal title. Not only will doing this increase the buy rate for the pay per view and add an extra layer of storytelling, it also allows Reigns to look strong in defeat if they go through with it.
Of course, WWE has already done a great job in doing that by having Dean Ambrose walking out on The Shield during the October 8th Raw main event, but they really need to shift the narrative to Ambrose threatening to cost him. At least that way, The WWE Universe will have a huge unknown heading into the pay per view, which will make the match even more special.
