The company blew people away with the console’s hybrid capabilities. The first-party lineup was also extremely strong in its first year, including heavy-hitters like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildand Super Mario Odyssey. Despite its success, there is still a lot that people get wrong about the popular console. Hopefully, this list clears the air about any misunderstandings people have about the Nintendo Switch. The best way to truly understand it, however, is to simply lay down the money and get one yourself.

6 All Of Its Ports Are Bad

The Nintendo Switch has received a lot of third-party support thanks to the novelty of bringing these games on the go. However, its ports have gotten a bad reputation for being below an acceptable standard of quality. This is definitely true with some games but no one should lump every port into one category.

Rarely will anyone find the best version of the game on the Nintendo Switch, but there are plenty that run just fine on Nintendo’s most recent system. Some notably great ports include Doom Eternal, Cuphead, and Alien: Isolation. Not everything is perfect, though, and plenty of evidence is there to support assertions that all Switch Ports are lackluster, such as Saints Row 3, Ark: Survival Evolved, and Mortal Kombat 11. It is best to do some research before buying the Switch version of a game before making a decision.

5 All It Has Is Mario And Zelda

People unfamiliar with Nintendo will decry it for having a weak first-party output supported mainly by a small handful of triple-A experiences. Anyone who doesn’t own a Switch might think Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda are the only two franchises worth the console. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

There are plenty of other exclusive franchises and games. One unique title off the top of our heads is Ring Fit Adventure. For RPG fans there is Xenoblade Chronicles. Those into multiplayer mayhem can always jump into Splatoon 2 while waiting for its sequel. Even Mario is more than just a platforming franchise; Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a turn-based strategy title taking inspiration from the XCOM series.

4 It’s Just For Kids

Even if one is convinced of the console’s numerous exclusive experiences, they still might retort by saying it is all for kids. These people have obviously never heard of Bayonetta or No More Heroes. The latter is not published by Nintendo, but at the moment it is a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Bayonetta started out as a multiplatform franchise, but the second game is only on Nintendo consoles and fans are currently waiting for the third game to come out for the Switch. Third-party support also does not shy away from mature content either. Bethesda brought many of its published games to the system before it was bought by Microsoft, including Doom and Wolfenstein.

Of all the misconceptions on this list, this one is perhaps the truest. Nintendo Switch undoubtedly has a lackluster online infrastructure and does not re-release old games at the same rate as other publishers. This complaint ignores one massive thing; Nintendo created a trend by innovating on portable gaming.

Only now are other companies trying to get in on the hybrid console design, most notably Valve with the Steam Deck. To say Nintendo is behind on trends ignores the massive splash in 2017 when the Nintendo Switch came out. Don’t forget about how games like Breath of the Wild also revolutionized open-world game design.

2 Switch Pro Is Coming Soon

It feels like there have been rumors of a Switch Pro coming since the console’s launch. It is easy to see why these rumors persist. Consumers want a stronger Nintendo console so games run smoother when on the go.

Other than reports from media, there is really no reason to believe a pro model is coming anytime soon. Nintendo has never given any indication that one is coming, so people should really calm down until official word comes from the company.

1 It Is Anti-Consumer

It is easy to look at some of Nintendo’s moves and think it has tried to stump the consumer at every possible turn. It is true there are some obvious issues that need attending to, but Nintendo has also done a lot right with the Switch.

The Switch Lite is a perfect example of this. Pay one hundred dollars less if you are just interested in portable gaming. The artificial scarcity of certain games and content locked behind Amiibos definitely sting, but the system itself is cheaper than most other options and offers a unique experience.
