Dusk Diver 2 is an action RPG set in Ximending Taipei. With chaos beasts to kill and delicious food to eat, there’s a lot to keep players busy. This sequel refines the original musou-style combat of the original game into smaller battles against more difficult enemies. Regardless of this change, new players and veterans alike can benefit from knowing how to keep their targets leveled up and moving forward. Here are some essential beginner tips for Dusk Diver 2.

6 Utilize Rewards

The best RPGs understand the importance of rewarding their players for their hardwork. New items, new skills, new party members, and other rewards often wait just around the corner for stomping mobs, beating bosses, and completing the game’s many quests. Dusk Diver 2 is no exception.

The player is rewarded with a variety of upgrades throughout the game, including gym slots, armor, and upgrade materials such as Shards and Memories. Some items improve the characters’ stats, while others grant them XP, helping them increase their level and overall strength. Items that offer XP can only be accessed from the Level Up menu, so the player has to make sure to check in from time to time and stay on top of their upgrades.

5 Re-Spec When Desired

There’s no rule that a player’s choices in a game have to be permanent, yet some games feature mechanics that make this the case. In such games, in the player decides to put all of their time and points into building a fire wizard, there’s no way to re-spec into a stealth archer. Systems like that aren’t automatically better or worse than others, but they do tend to curb the player’s experimentation.

In Dusk Diver 2, there’s nothing wrong with getting partway through the game only to realize that the current character build just isn’t working. Thanks to this system, if the player dumps all of their points into Strength and Endurance only to realize that Power and Luck are more important to them, they can easily correct that. This system allows for considerable experimentation since the player won’t be punished if they’re wrong about how a certain build will work out.

4 Higher Level Isn’t Always Better

Equipment in Dusk Diver 2 has several features, one of the most important being levels. The level of an item is a quick way to judge its overall usefulness, with higher level items being more powerful as a general rule. Many beginners simply equip whatever items have the highest levels, regardless of its other qualities, however, which is not a great idea if the player wants to keep these great characters around.

Having more gem slots makes a major difference, so it’s often better to prioritize armor that has more gem slots over armor that happens to be a higher level. Gem slots are randomly generated, so the player may find items that are lower level but have more gem slots than other armor pieces. Having the right gems can give the player a huge advantage in battle, so it’s almost always worthwhile to prioritize gem slots over item level.

3 Complete Sidequests

Sidequests are a staple of the RPG genre. Even when the player tasked with saving the world - or the universe - from destruction, there always seems to be time to pick kill 10 boars or deliver a box of chocolate half-way across the country. The quality and quantity of these quests vary immensely, but they’re almost always a notable feature.

Completing sidequests in Dusk Diver 2 is a great way to unlock cosmetics, loot, and abilities. It’s well-worth investing time in sidequests due to the large number of rewards the player receives. This is particularly true of the Food Card sidequests, which offers the player sizable XP bonuses for making progress, allowing the player to level up more quickly. In addition to the practical rewards the player receives, the excellent cosmetics are just another reason to work on these quests whenever the player has a chance.

2 Worship In Every Chapter

Hidden and optional bosses are another favorite feature in gaming. Sometimes the hardest bosses in the entire game will only show up at the end of an obscure sidequest or if the player happens to stumble upon the right area at the right time. While Dusk Diver 2 doesn’t include anything quite so elaborate, it does give the chance to tackle additional challenges in exchange for some sizable rewards.

Dusk Diver 2 features two shrines at which the player can worship to receive unique boss challenges. These boss fights aren’t particularly challenging as long as the player is appropriately leveled and equipped, and completing these challenges awards the player with XP and other rewards, making them a quick way to gain significant progress.

1 Search For Quests Everywhere

With stores, restaurants, and other locales scattered throughout Ximending, there’s plenty for players to check out between chapters. It’s important to check the map regularly to make sure that every available sidequest is being completed. Some quests are likely to be stumbled upon while the character is just going about their business, but others are tucked away, and the map is the easiest way to double-check that nothing was missed.

Sidequests are, by definition, not the main story, so it’s not like the player will lose the game if a few quests remain incomplete. Given the rewards they offer and the small amount of time that most of them take to complete, it’s tough to argue against tackling as many sidequests as possible unless the main story is the only thing of interest to the player. Even if that’s the case, taking on some sidequests now and then can be important for staying appropriately leveled, which is all the more reason that using the map to thoroughly search for sidequests is so important.
