“We continue to diligently seek the justice so honorably owed to Abby, Libby, their respective families, and our dedicated, local community. To that end, I want to stress that the investigation is still quite active and is NOT a cold case,” Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said in a statement issued Thursday by the Indiana State Police.

The statement by Leazenby comes nearly five years after 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German went missing on February 13, 2017, and were found dead a day later near the Delphi Historic Trail in Delphi, Indiana.

According to the Indiana State Police, Williams and German were last known to be near the Monon High Bridge and were set to be picked up at a pre-arranged time, but they never showed up. A day later, their bodies were found approximately a half-mile upstream from the bridge near where they were dropped off.

On February 15, 2017, the Indiana State Police and local law enforcement partners, released a photograph of a person that was seen on the Delphi Historic Trail at the same time that Williams and German were there. In the photograph, the individual is described as a white male wearing “blue jeans, a blue coat/jacket, and a hoodie.”

In addition to a photo of the suspected killer, police have also released a video that was found on one of the girl’s phones reportedly of the same individual. In 2017, the FBI also released a sketch of the person who is believed to be the primary suspect in the murder of the two girls.

In December 2021, the Indiana State Police asked the public’s help for information regarding a social media profile named “Anthony_Shots.” Police did not announce an explicit link to the profile and the killings but noted that the creator of the profile was active in 2016 and 2017 and allegedly contacted juvenile girls.

In a statement sent to Newsweek in December, a spokesperson for the Indiana State Police said declined to confirm or deny that the creator of the profile was a suspect in the Delphi murder investigation but said, “At this time, we are looking for any information about the ‘anthony_shots’ profile and anyone who may have had contact with that profile.”

In the statement released on Thursday, police asked the public again for any information related to that Anthony_Shots profile.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter also commented on the case ahead of the five-year anniversary saying, “Abby, Libby, their families, and the Delphi community deserve nothing less. We also continue to ask for tips to be submitted, because one day we will obtain that one piece of information we seek…the identity of the person responsible for this senseless crime.”
