In order to achieve the maximum possible amount of said carnage, fans look around - and more often under - the ring for weapons of mass destruction. No, not the nuclear warhead types, but rather, chairs, tables, ladders, sledgehammers, the works. You know, the traditional things you see in professional wrestling.

But, with the WWE going PG and taking extra precautions when it comes to weapons violence, a number of traditional weapons have slowly been phased out of their WWE 2K series which is made by developer 2K Games.

The crazy flaming tables of the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Eras are very much relics of a past WWE would like best to be left to the history books. But, what other weapons are no longer around in the WWE 2K games? Well, that’s what we’re here to find out.

So, without any further ado, here is our list of 5 WWE weapons you can’t use in WWE 2K games anymore:

#5 The Ring Bell

The Ring Bell is still very much present in the WWE 2K series. After all, how it could it not be, considering it is the most vital component in deciding the start and end of any and every wrestling match in history?

But, what has changed over the years is that you can no longer use the ring bell as a weapon against your opponents. Gone are the days when you could just walk up to the ring announcer’s area and pick up the bell and clock your opponent over the head with it.

The most obvious reason for this is because the ring bell is almost exclusively used for shots to the head – something the WWE has strictly forbidden. It is hardly surprising that you can no longer employ the bell as a weapon.

#4 Brass Knuckles

Brass Knuckles were one of the most common weapons used by heels during the Attitude Era and the Ruthless Aggression Era as a method to steal a victory without the referee catching them for their blatant act of cheating.

It wasn’t all that unusual to see a professional wrestler reach into his tights and pull out these knuckles, punch the opponent in the head with them, throw them away or hide them back in the tights, and pick up the victory.

Just like the ring bell, the brass knuckles were phased for much the same reason – they are primarily used on the head, and that is a strict no-no according to the WWE’s Wellness Policy on concussion based injuries.

#3 Iron Pipe

The Iron Pipe is one of the old favourites of professional wrestlers. There is something truly primal in seeing someone being beaten black and blue with a metal pipe. They were especially a staple of the hardcore matches from back in the day.

And, they are no longer around for pretty much the same reason. It just doesn’t fit the WWE’s image for kids to boot on WWE 2K17, pick John Cena and then proceed to beat the every loving crap out of Kevin Owens with an iron pipe.

Pipes are seen as the more violent substitute for steel chairs and don’t expect to see them back in a WWE 2K game in the near future.

#2 Barbed Wire Baseball Bat

Baseball bats made a return to WWE’s 2K Games series when Sting finally signed on with Vince McMahon’s company. It is, after all, his traditional weapon and it didn’t make sense for the WWE to not capitalise on his popularity.

But, they drew the line at the baseball bat. Barbed Wire Baseball Bats were – and still are – a forbidden weapon. In an era where bleeding – even unintentionally – is frowned upon, there is no way barbed wires are going to be included.

While it’s fun to see the return of the baseball bat, a number of the nostalgic fans still yearn for the days of the barbed wire version that was the cause for so many bloodbaths.

#1 Championship Belts

Well, I admit this entry is a bit of a cheat, but it deserves to be here. Full disclosure, you can actually use a championship belt in WWE 2K17, but it is one hell of a convoluted process. Only if you attack a champion during his entrance when he is bringing his belt can it be used. That is the only way.

For something that is traditionally the weapon of choice for heel champions to use to their advantage, I would hardly call it “being able to use” a championship belt as a weapon if you have to exploit one weird method.

Championship belt attacks – the proper kind – need to make a reappearance in WWE 2K18.
